Samlesbury Hall

< span>

Samlesbury Hall sits midway between Preston and Blackburn. Where the road lays now, the defensive moat would have stood, encircling the house and outbuildings. The fabric of the hall has weathered periods of change, expansion and near total decay. And the layout of the main building, changed to suit each present owners’ needs. Originally built around a courtyard on three sides, only the south and west wings remain.

I had no plan to visit the hall that day, arriving only because of a diversion on the M6 as I drove south. Having captured so many incredibly clear evidential voices, I feel there was a reason for me to come. I don’t think I arrived at Samlesbury Hall by chance!
